Working Group Law

Prof. Forgó is co-director of the Institute for Legal Informatics (IRI) at the Faculty of Law of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, which is dedicated to legal research in the fields of information and communication technologies.

At the Institute for Legal Informatics Prof. Forgó‘s main research focus is on IT law and legal informatics, in particular on privacy and data security law, legal theory and legal informatics aspects of the use of information technology, e-commerce and consumer protection law, and intellectual property issues of information technology.

Research and teaching are internationally oriented and embedded in a network of international partners, consisting of universities, companies and governmental institutions. The Institute for Legal Informatics, with its approximately 50 employees, is involved as a partner in presently ten EU-funded (FP7, Innovative Medicines Initiatives [IMI] and Horizon2020) and numerous national research projects focusing on privacy law, data protection law and intellectual property rights, especially in medical research.

The IRI is very well connected at university level as well. In particular, this includes cooperation with the L3S Research Center (Learning Lab Lower Saxony). Besides heading the IRI, Prof. Forgó is also a member and director of the L3S Research Center.
